56th International Customs Day Celebrated
"Combating the Illicit Trafficking in Drugs and Psychotropic Substances"
Department of Customs observed the 56th International Customs Day on 26 January 2008 with various programs and activities. On 25th January an interaction program on trade facilitation and customs was jointly organized with FNCCI at Himalaya Hotel. Representatives of business communities along with Director General of Customs Department shared the views on customs modernization, trade facilitation and the role of customs.
On 26th January, the first three visitors entering Kathmandu through TIA Customs were welcomed and felicitated at Tribhuvan International Airport by Mr. Lakshman Kumar Pokharel, Dlirector General of DOC.
Director General, in a function organized at the Department of Customs, highlighted on the roles to be borne by Nepal customs in the changing roles of customs in 21st century. He also distributed certificate of merit and certificate of appreciation to the employees of Department of Customs on the occasion. Mr. Shankar Prasad Adhikari, Deputy Director General also highlighted on the challenging tasks to the fore of customs administration.
Chief Guest Mr. Vidyadhar Mallik, Secretary, Ministry of Finance focused on enhancing role of customs particularly in combating the illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances in a special program jointly organized by the Department of Customs and the Nepal Chamber of Commerce. Revenue Secretary Mr. Rameswor Khanal, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Purushottam Ohja, Secretary for Industry, Commerce and Supply also shed light on different aspects of customs and its role in trade facilitation. Mr. Lakshman Kumar Pokharel, Director General welcomed the guests and highlighted of the program. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Shankar Prasad Adhikari, Deputy Director General. The program was chaired by Mr. Surendra Veer Malakar, President, Nepal Chamber of Commerce.
